airWG end presentation
Jake Singer
21 till 23 Jul 2017
Opening: Saturday 22 Jul 2017 — 17:00 till 19:00 hrs

airWg is proud to present the end presentation of their current artist Jake Singer. Singer is a multidisciplinary artist from Johannesburg. He looks for "charged" objects, ie materials that can be fragmented and reformed into new entities.

He says, "in Amsterdam I have noticed how ordered the landscape is. This is a strong contrast to where I come from. For me, Amsterdam represents the idyllic. This state of being is, to some extent, a result of its colonial history, and of transporting objects. The idyllic nature of this city is largely possible because other places are not.”

In this exhibition at the end of his residency at airWG, Singer will aim to “deconstruct the the ideal” through multimedia.

The opening will start with a discussion about the work between Singer and Bert de Liefde. Bert is a pilot who travels on average to three different continents a month. Because of his long term interest in art, he uses flying as a tool to meet people in the global art world such as curators, artists etc. These activities have given him a better understanding of local contexts which inform artistic production. This is how Bert met Jake in his studio in Johannesburg, two years ago.
