Part of the atelierWG Series
For their film installation, Dominique Panhuysen and Danielle van Vree interviewed both their mothers: wondering how their mothers’ experiences and memories impact their own lives, they looked for common grounds and cross-pollination. In The lines along which we walk they give a voice to their mothers' generation – a voice that continues to resonate in the present.
The artists were inspired by the book The Years by Annie Ernaux; a collective autobiography of our time. It tells the story of the period 1941-2006 through the lens of memory, present and remembered impressions, cultural customs, language, photographs, books, songs, radio, television, advertising and headlines.
Please note that the film is in Dutch and does not contain subtitles.
Opening times 26, 27, 28 and 29 October: 14:00-18:00.
Events:
Finissage: Sunday 29 October
At 15.30 an interview will take place with Anja Brasser about the Women’s Line – the generations of women from which you descend (your mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and generations beyond).
Writing Workshops
Based on this theme, Dominique and Danielle are developing a series of writing workshops in Amsterdam West. Mothers and daughters are invited to talk to each other and share their memories and experiences. Through different ways of writing and noting, each participant discovers her own place on the timeline in the collective (life) story.
These will take place on:
Monday 20 and 27 Nov. 2023 OBA Mercatorplein 9.30-12.00
Monday 15 and 22 Jan. 2024 OBA Bos en Lommer 9.30-12.00
